Émile Gallé, a visionary of the Art Nouveau movement, sparked a revolution in glassmaking in late 19th-century France. Gallé worked from Nancy and combined his passions for botany, poetry and chemistry to create glass pieces that were both technically innovative and deeply symbolic. His signature techniques included cameo glass, acid-etching and wheel-cut work, often layered with natural motifs such as flowers, insects and landscapes. Gallé's workshop, the Cristallerie d'Émile Gallé, became a center of artistic excellence, where skilled artisans brought his intricate designs to life. After his death in 1904, production continued under the leadership of his son-in-law, Paul Perdrizet, who preserved Gallé's heritage while also introducing new designs. The studio remained active into the 1930s and focused on multi-layered cameo glass with delicate floral and landscape themes.
