Exquisite Art Deco Brooch With Natural Pearl & Diamonds, ca. 1930

A charming sight offers this brooch, whose frosty sparkle takes us to the years around 1930. The years between the wars, the Art Deco years, were a wild time. People in Europe and the USA were confronted with numerous drastic innovations: Electric light became fully established, film created its stars and starlets, who were admired across national borders. The automobile took possession of the city and architecture grew skyward all at once. While on the social and political level the tensions became stronger and stronger and pushed up from the depths, the surface in film, magazines and on the boulevards of the capitals - still - shone in a glittering, seductive way: When at night the movie palaces, the department stores and restaurants were brightly illuminated, the headlights of the cars brought speed and movement into the cities - then man and woman could imagine themselves in a new, better and modern world. The brooch, which is presented here, shines in the material composition of luxurious platinum and a multitude of glittering diamonds, typical for the Art Deco period. The piece of jewellery presents itself as a transverse openwork bar, a classic jewel form of the era. Its center field presents a precious natural pearl with a wonderful luster. Fine saw work divides the surface of the brooch, which is set with rose cut diamonds. Four old European cut diamonds flank the orient pearl, individually set in delicate bezels to create additional highlights. Fine milgrains take the heaviness out of the design and dissolve the shape into a shimmering play of light reflections. The brooch found its way to us from Frankfurt and has been well preserved to this day.
