Alla auktioner / Etnografica / Exquisite Lapis Lazuli with Intense Blue Contemporary...
First Choice Lapis Lazuli, Afghanistan — An ornamental composition of notable value, centered on a premium lapis lazuli specimen, selected for the intensity and extraordinary depth of its color. The stone presents a magnificent ultramarine blue, vivid and uniform, enriched by subtle natural veining and by a multitude of tiny gold pyrite inclusions that speckle the surface, glowing like stars in a night sky. This chromatic richness and the sparkling inclusions confer on the piece a unique charm and remarkable visual depth. The lapis lazuli has been skillfully worked and polished, taking on a slender and contemporary form. Its profile is characterized by irregular lines and a pronounced curve at the bottom, a design that preserves the stone's natural identity by transforming it into a sculpture with a modern and essential design. Meticulous polishing enhances the blue saturation, making visible the delicate color variations and the complex mineral matrix that distinguish the specimen. The stone is elegantly supported by a brass structure, shaped specifically to follow its profile and create the illusion of a visual suspension above the base. The warm golden tone of the metal generates a refined and harmonious contrast with the deep blue of the lapis lazuli, highlighting its beauty. The black base, sober and solid, provides stability to the entire composition, completing it with a museum-like aesthetic that underscores its character as an art object. Treasured since antiquity, lapis lazuli has played a primary role in several civilizations, from Mesopotamia to Egypt, and to the Mediterranean, where it was used for amulets, jewelry, inlays, and ceremonial objects. Its deep, rare, and precious color was associated with the celestial vault, with royalty, and with knowledge. Ground into powder, it gave rise to the equally precious ultramarine pigment, for centuries reserved for the most important painting works. This specimen, with its combination of millennia-old history and modern design, represents a magnificent focal point for any collection or environment. The small irregularities and color variations are intrinsic to the stone’s nature and confirm its authenticity and natural origin.
