The bow motif runs through centuries of jewellery design and has remained popular to this day. Once a favorite of the vivacious Rococo era, bow brooches saw countless new fashions in the centuries that followed. Even Art Deco reinterpreted them; the playful, soft shape of the bow offered a delightful contrast to the precise geometric shapes and icy white jewellery materials of the time. The present brooch is a particularly splendid representative of this jewellery genre and captivates with precious materials, excellent workmanship and its elegant shape. Its curved surface is set with 146 diamonds with a total weight of about 2.96 carats. In the center of the composition, a particularly beautiful old-cut diamond is set. Finely hand-sawn shadow gaps surround the hexagonal settings of the gemstones, and tiny millegrain detailing dissolves the surface into a play of white light reflections. Thus, despite its size, the brooch appears surprisingly light and airy. The brooch is crafted from solid platinum, which, along with the angular shape of the diamond settings, allows us to date it to around 1930. After solid platinum jewellery was already popular around 1910, Russian platinum exports ceased after the revolution. As a result, the price of platinum rose to many times the price of gold. It was only after new platinum mines were opened in the South African Transvaal in 1924 that solid platinum jewellery returned to the displays of jewellery stores. A wonderful, timeless jewel that looks just as good on a lapel as it does on the neckline of a dress or as a glamorous accent on a waistband.
