Faema - Coffee maker - Rare manual espresso coffee...

On auction, a true jewel of Italian industrial design and the history of espresso coffee: the legendary Faema Baby (Third Series), produced by the famous F.A.E.M.A. Milano workshop between the late 1950s and the 1960s. This model represents a milestone for collectors: a completely mechanical hydraulic-piston machine, devoid of electrical components, that uses an ingenious dual lever (kinematic) system (analogous to the principle of modern competition tools like the Cafelat Robot). Espresso is extracted by manually pushing the two levers downward, after pouring boiling water directly into the group head. The specimen presents in its splendid and highly sought-after original red color from the era, with the Faema logo clearly visible and embossed on the central fused body. The ends of the levers are in the classic "drop" shape in polished aluminum. Technical Details and Features: • Manufacturer: FAEMA (Fabbrica Apparecchiature Elettro Meccaniche e Affini) - Milan, Italy • Model: Faema Baby (Third Series) • Period: Approximately 1955 - 1965 • Operation: Manual piston/hydraulic pressure (no electricity) • Materials: Die-cast aluminum body painted, levers in steel/aluminum • Included accessories: Original portafilter and aluminum cup/glass (as shown in photo) Condition of the item: The item is preserved in very good vintage aesthetic condition, with a magnificent patina of time that authenticates its originality. Normal and light signs of wear on the paint due to age are present, which only enhance the charm of this display piece. Mechanically the levers move smoothly. The Faema Baby coffee machine has the following physical specifications: • Height at rest: about 30 cm (with the levers lowered) • Maximum height: about 50 cm (when the two side levers are fully raised) • Maximum width: about 18 - 23 cm (depending on position and lever opening) • Depth (base diameter): about 15 - 18 cm
