Figure - Pair of mid-century ceramic wall tiles – Guy...

Beautiful set of 2 mid-century ceramic wall tiles – Guy Trévoux for Proceram (Aubagne) – Maritime Decor. France, 1960s Rare set of two French mid-century design wall tiles. These unique artworks were designed in the 1960s/70s and signed by the renowned French ceramist and artist Guy Trévoux (1920-2011) and produced by the famous Proceram workshop in Aubagne (Provence, France). The tiles feature a beautifully stylized, organic maritime decor of seashells. The natural beige, brown, and soft pastel tones contrast spectacularly with the jet-black, high-gloss glazed background. The absolute centerpiece of the compositions is the bright, vivid orange-red accent that immediately draws the eye and gives the tiles fantastic dynamism. Thanks to the sleek black-glazed edges, the tiles have a minimalist and luxurious appearance. A rare design object that fits perfectly in a retro, modern, Hollywood Regency, or eclectic interior! Guy Trévoux (1920-2011) was a versatile French artist, writer, and composer. He gained wide renown for his innovative ceramic art. He began his career at the prestigious Henriot Quimper in Brittany, where he modernized the collections. Later he collaborated with leading French workshops and extensively experimented with unusual glazes and organic, coast-inspired motifs. Proceram (Aubagne and Provence) was in the 1950s, '60s and '70s one of the most important French centers for art pottery. Items from this workshop, recognizable by the stamps on the reverse, are today highly sought after by collectors of European Mid-Century design. The tiles are in exceptionally well-preserved condition. The colors and glaze are still as intense and glossy as when they were baked decades ago. The backside is fully authentic.
