12mo. 269, [5] pages. Hardcover bound in original dark tan cloth with cover designs embossed in black and with a spine title on a gilt background. Moderate rubbing and wear to the binding. A sound copy with secure inner hinges. Text is toned. An early owner's inscription on the front flyleaf reads, "Lizzie from Father / Dec. 25, 1891". Scarce. We currently do not see any other copies listed online. Edgar Woods (1827-1910) was born in Wheeling, Virginia (now West Virginia) and died in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was an educator, historian and preacher and took over the First Presbyterian Church of Charlottesville, Virginia in 1866, following Rev. William H. McGuffey (of McGuffy Readers fame). He was also an historian, and at one time he owned Arrowhead, an historic property in Albemarle County. He is probably best known for a history of Albemarle County which he published in Charlottesville in 1901.
