Gift quality first edition hardcover in 'tweedy' blue paper covered boards showing bumped spine ends, sharp tips and pink spine title w/drawing of Laurie there also. No names, tears or soil inside the well illustrated, tight, crisp 255pp text. Original, un-clipped illustrated dust wrapper in hues of brown, pink and cream w/yellow title on frt panel has a few letters/numbers written on head of frt flap but book is not ex-library. Jacket shows small wrinkle at frt upper flap fold corner, else fine. It is complete and displays very well in new mylar. Ten-year-old Laurie wants a horse more than anything else in the world. She wanted Fella so much that she was willing to get up at five in the a.m. to feed him, knock herself out of the loft pitching his hay, and practice riding him until she couldn't sit down! A lot of work for a little girl, but Laurie felt it was worth it if she could earn the right to have Fella for her very own. This is a family story, for Mother and Dad, Tim and Donny, as well as Ricky and the Slater tribe, play a large part in the delightful saga of the conquest of Fella. But Laurie, who streams purposely past such pitfalls as fist fights and an inability to master simple arithmetic, has the first and last word.
