First Edition. Decorated map endpapers. Publishers orange cloth with black lettering, some light smudging at covers, light wear at spine edges, with light weat at corners. Now housed in homemade, clear acetate dust wrapper. 283 pages. Basis for the 1929 talking film directed by Frank Tuttle and starring Fredric March, Doris Hill, Warner Oland, and Eugene Pallette. Written by Ethel Doherty, A. Channing Edington, Carmen Ballen Edington, Joseph L. Mankiewicz and Frank Tuttle. "The Studio Murder Mystery" is a captivating classic of Golden Age detective fiction that pulls back the curtain on the glitz and glamour of 1920s Hollywood. When a high-profile figure is discovered dead on a movie studio lot, the illusion of the silver screen shatters, revealing a real-world drama of ambition, jealousy, and cold-blooded murder. Set during a transformative era for the film industry, the narrative utilizes its cinematic backdrop not just as scenery, but as a crucial element of the intricate plot. As investigators probe the soundstages and backlots, they encounter a cast of suspects ranging from temperamental stars to ambitious directors, all of whom are experts at playing a part. The story masterfully balances the technical details of early filmmaking with the rigorous logic of a traditional whodunit. Written by the collaborative team of A. C. and Carmen Edington, this work stands out for its authentic atmosphere and its vivid portrayal of the studio system's inner workings. "The Studio Murder Mystery" offers readers a compelling blend of historical insight and suspenseful storytelling, making it an essential read for aficionados of vintage mysteries and the golden era of film alike.
