Ingo Maurer for Flair – set of 6 vintage Cintre clothes hangers – c. 1970 – Space Age design Special and highly decorative set of six vintage hangers, attributed to the internationally known German designer Ingo Maurer and produced for Flair, circa 1970. The design is immediately recognizable by the bold, graphic styling: a chunky integrated hook, wide rounded shoulders, the small opening under the hook and the long horizontal slot in the lower part. The warm chocolate-brown color makes this set particularly characteristic of 1970s interior design. Ingo Maurer (1932–2019) became world-famous mainly for his innovative lighting designs, but in the 1960s and 1970s he also designed various utilitarian objects and interior accessories. Documented examples of this coat hanger model are referred to as Cintre by Ingo Maurer for Flair, circa 1970. The design of these six pieces corresponds to well-known and documented versions from that period. The hangers are made of sturdy molded plastic and consist of a single piece. Thanks to the substantial form, they are not only functional but also have an almost sculptural appearance. They are therefore especially suitable for an open wardrobe, clothing rack, vintage interior, design collection, or as a stylish display in a shop or boutique. The attribution is based on the distinctive form and comparison with documented examples of Ingo Maurer for Flair from circa 1970. Condition The clothes hangers are in used vintage condition with clear signs of wear and aging. On the surfaces there are scratches, rubbing marks and local wear. Especially around the hooks, shoulders and edges there are signs of use. This is clearly visible in the detail photos and belongs to a set that has indeed been in use for decades. Not new reproductions, but a beautiful set with the character and look that suit original 1970s design. A particularly nice find for enthusiasts of Ingo Maurer, Space Age design and original 1970s interior accessories. As a complete set of six, these hangers are also especially decorative when presented together on an open clothing rack.
