Flavii Josephi - Des hochberüempten Histori beschreibers alle Bücher - 1553

“Flavius Josephus, the highly celebrated historian, describes all books. Namely 20 from the ancient histories of the Jews” 1553. Rare two-part edition, printed by Samuel Emm el in Strasbourg. The pages are uniformly slightly browned and have throughout mostly unobtrusive watermarks. Toward the end there are sometimes somewhat more pronounced margin spots. Leaf 6 in the first part shows a tear up to about the middle of the page in the lower inner margin area. Leaf 161 in the first part has a large tear at the upper corner. Also the white leaf between the two parts has a larger defect in the upper corner area. From leaf 160 in the second part there are upper corner tears, which increase toward the end. From leaf 167 the defects affect the text area, initially only with loss of characters and the last leaves with loss of text. Leaves LL1 and LL3-5 in the index are present only about halfway. In addition the index shows worm trails in the text. The title page of the first part is missing. Bound in a beautiful embossed contemporary binding with a remnant of a clasp. The binding is rubbed, occasionally somewhat more so. The corners are bumped, the back shows some small worm tracks and the spine at the bottom has a small defect.
