Alla auktioner / Asiatisk keramik & konsthantverk / Flower pot - Copper
A rarely, beautifully preserved Chinese-painted cloisonné cachepot (Canton enamel on copper), dating from the late Qing Dynasty (19th century). The pot features an elegant square, lobed form with a broad projecting collar and stands on four original, incised gilded copper/brass corner feet. Decoration & Symbolism: The exterior is adorned with four sunken, white-enamelled cartouches, each hand-painted in a refined famille rose palette with traditional floral motifs: Peonies (Mudan): Symbol of wealth, prosperity and nobility. Chrysanthemums (Juhua): Symbol of autumn, steadfastness and a long life. Prunus / Blossom (Meihua): The harbinger of spring and a symbol of renewal. Winde (Qianniuhua): Classic summer floral motif. The scenes are framed by cobalt-blue cloud bands and flanking corner panels with stylized chilong motifs on a lilac ground, combined with tendrils on a pale green ground. The upper rim is decorated with blossoms and grapevines on a purple geometric lattice pattern. The interior is traditionally finished with the characteristic speckled turquoise counter-enamel (contre-émail). Condition report: For 19th-century Canton enamel on copper this piece is in an exceptionally good and collectible state: The enamel on the four decorative panels is entirely intact, bright in color and without distracting cracks or flaking. No restorations, retouching or hidden overpainting. Only very minimal, authentic micro-cracking along the lower edge (quite inherent to the casting technique on thin copper) and light, normal signs of aging on the interior. The feet are original, straight and securely affixed.
