Million-year-old natural history in an extraordinary form: This impressive 2-piece set of fossilized wood has been crafted into large, highly polished spheres, beautifully preserving visible structures of the original wood. The two spheres could hardly be more color-diverse. The left specimen delights with intense orange, copper, honey, and cream tones, flowing in broad, lively bands across the stone. The natural grain still resembles growth fibers in places, giving the sphere a warm, almost fiery radiance. The second sphere forms an exciting counterpoint. Here, dark chocolate brown, black brown, cream, and bold pink- to purple-toned areas dominate. The strong elongated patterns create an extraordinary sense of depth and make this piece a true eye-catcher. The spherical shape allows the drawing to be viewed all around—each turn changes the image, revealing new grain patterns, color fields, and mineralized structures. Without the organic parts, all the living matter was replaced by stone: there are growth rings, cell separations, almost like worm cracks. Its features are those of the mineral that would have pseudo-transformed the wood: the silicon. And that’s what we call a "petrified wood" in the common language.
