Fr. 1178. 1882 $20 Gold Certificate. PMG Very Fine 30. An honest mid-grade example of a popular design. The eye appeal of this specimen is nothing to balk at and stands worthy of only appreciation. From qualities such as bold color exemplified by the "GOLD" underprint seen to the left of President James A. Garfield's portrait and the vignette Ocean Telegraph seen on the back which comes executed in a distinct shade of orange-gold. Together little is left to be unappreciated as the left-facing portrait of Garfield cuts a distinct impression seemingly outsized compared to his relative obscurity in the present. The balance of the note comes accomplished by no shortage of clauses and imprints seen in the company of various engraved design flourishes. These elements round out both the corners and margins and serve to complement the rich colors expressed by the red-blue Treasury overprint that looks as fresh as a recently delivered stock of ink that had just been delivered to the Bureau of Engraving & Printing and should ultimately see this mid-grade specimen to a respectable realization.
