Fr. 1187*. 1922 $20 Gold Certificate Star Note. PCGS Banknote Choice

An Excessively Rare Replacement Issued Under the Series of 1922 Fr. 1187*. 1922 $20 Gold Certificate Star Note. PCGS Banknote Choice Uncirculated 64 PPQ. Situated atop the pinnacle of those encapsulated by PCGS Banknote, bidders have here the chance to contest a true rarity for a series imprint where otherwise unremarkable notes represent an unceasing norm. Here one is met by a sight that speaks to the fact that this note is exceptional in every sense of the word. Eye appeal abounds amidst a field of lively color that sets an impeccable standard against those that represent circulated grade levels towards the bottom of the grading spectrum. Yet this aesthetic consideration fails to speak to the sheer rarity posed by Replacements when held against their non-Replacement counterparts for this series imprint where well over 10,000 individual serial numbers are recorded. By contrast, Replacements account for a population that numbers around 200 pieces at all grade levels where well-circulated pieces again represent the technical norm. High-grade examples are nonetheless as rare as one could expect and this example is every bit the exception to the technical norm and offers a sight that comes tantalizingly close to a higher grade level. Even so this note still manages to stand unsurpassed at PCGS Banknote and above other pieces that managed to avoid technical circulation and again offers a remarkable opportunity for the collector who desires and seeks only the best for themselves. PCGS Banknote Pop 2/None Finer. Estimate: $10,000 - $15,000. Click here for certification details from PCGS Banknote.
