Fr. 68. 1875 $5 Legal Tender Note. PCGS Banknote Uncirculated 62.

Fr. 68. 1875 $5 Legal Tender Note. PCGS Banknote Uncirculated 62. Reflective of a long-lived design and one that has seen consistent popularity with collectors. The design was issued in quantity under both the Series of 1875 and Series of 1878 and is quite distinctive even compared to the Series of 1869 and the Series of 1880. Here the distinctive pinkish-red Treasury overprint and large ornamental "V" protector are both attractive sights to behold even before one even considers the grade assigned. In all, this note is a visual treat that not only demonstrates the inherent skills of period engravers and the bleeding edge of contemporary anti-counterfeiting methods, but one that also stands as a colorful exemplar that does well to demonstrate the prevailing aesthetic standards of the 1870s. PCGS Banknote comments "Pinholes." Estimate: $1,500 - $2,500. Click here for certification details from PCGS Banknote.
