FRAGMENT OF BLACK KISWAH FABRIC FROM THE KA‘BA, SAUDI ARABIA, 20TH CENTURY A fragment from the sacred inner covering of the Kiswah, intended for the interior walls of the Ka‘ba, made of black silk with an inscription woven in silver silk thread. The design is dominated by a large inscription in Thuluth script bearing a phrase of praise for the Prophet: “Peace and blessings be upon you, O Messenger of Allah.” The upper and lower bands bear, respectively, a supplication for the Prophet Muhammad and prayers for the Four Rightly Guided Caliphs and the Companions. INSCRIPTIONS: “Prayers and peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah.” “O Allah, bless the Prophet Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets and Messengers.” DIMENSIONS: 146 × 206 cm
