Franklin Mint - Manabu Saito - Sculpture

Superb Franklin Mint collector statuette entitled “Mariko – Princess of the Wisteria Blossoms” (Mariko, Princess of the Wisterias), crafted in fine porcelain after a creation by artist Manabu Saito. This elegant sculpture depicts Mariko, princess of the wisterias, dressed in a sumptuous traditional Japanese kimono with delicate celadon-green nuances, richly decorated with pink floral motifs and exquisite gold highlights. The finesse of her face, the carefully worked traditional coiffure, and the numerous details of her outfit testify to the remarkable care given to this piece. Mariko is represented in a graceful pose, gently holding a flowering branch in her right hand, while a small green bird seems to perch near her other hand. This poetic composition evokes the beauty and serenity of Japanese gardens. The scene rests on a superb landscape setting, particularly elaborate, consisting of carved rocks, a small turquoise-toned stream, lush vegetation, and an elegant Japanese stone lantern. Several small green birds complete this composition, bringing a touch of life and lightness to the whole. The hues of celadon green, pink, gold, and turquoise blue provide a magnificent contrast and particularly highlight the finesse of the porcelain as well as the many sculpted elements. The kimono’s long sleeves, the floral motifs, and the landscape details confer great decorative elegance to this work. The underside of the base clearly bears the original inscriptions: “MARIKO – Princess of the Wisteria Blossoms – MANABU SAITO – FINE PORCELAIN – THE FRANKLIN MINT” Specifications: Publisher: The Franklin Mint / Franklin Medalist Model: Mariko – Princess of the Wisteria Blossoms Artist: Manabu Saito Material: Fine porcelain Decoration: Polychrome with gold details Condition: Very good overall condition. Colors are bright, gilding well preserved, and the numerous decorative details are particularly well preserved. To note: the flower held in Mariko’s right hand has been reattached in the hand. This restoration is discreet and does not detract from the overall beauty of the statuette. See the detailed photographs.
