Magnificent Italian-made secreter secretary desk by the prestigious Fratelli Borghesani of Bovolone, one of the most renowned workshops in Verona’s traditional cabinetmaking, specializing in high-quality artistic furniture. This exclusive piece, datable to the late 19th to early 20th century, represents a refined interpretation of French models inspired by Louis XVI and Napoleon III, adapted to Italian taste through extraordinary artisanal craftsmanship. Built in carefully selected walnut wood, it presents an elegant framework of sinuous, balanced lines, with a bulging front and curved sides that add dynamism and sophistication to the whole. The flip-top reveals its function as a desk, masterfully integrating the usefulness of a secreter with the storage capacity of a chest of drawers, a feature much appreciated in display furniture of the era. The entire surface is enriched with delicate inlays of Bovolone marquetry, executed with great precision using woods of different tones that draw stylized vegetal motifs, scrolls, and symmetrical compositions inspired by 18th-century French ornamental repertoires. These decorations are harmoniously distributed across the top, the drawers, and the sides, highlighting the rich color of the walnut grain and evidencing the high technical level of the firma’s master craftsmen. The lower body is organized with wide drawers featuring wave-front fronts, equipped with elegant Rococo-inspired metal handles that subtly contrast with the warmth of the wood. The piece rests on slightly curved, stylized legs, contributing lightness to a solid and balanced composition. Especially notable is its character as a numbered and exclusive piece, with the original Fratelli Borghesani Bovolone identification plate housed inside the first drawer, an element that certifies its provenance and underscores its status as an artistic furniture piece of selective production. This identification, characteristic of the firm’s highest-quality works, adds important documentary and collector value. For its construction quality, design, and state of conservation, this secreter desk constitutes an exceptional example of Italian art furniture transitioning between the 19th and 20th centuries, combining functionality, decorative refinement, and the artisanal excellence that made the Bovolone workshops renowned throughout Europe. Ideal for both classic, elegant environments and eclectic interiors where one seeks a singular piece with personality, history, and notable decorative presence. Certified shipping and good packaging.
