G. Pratella (XX) - Marina con barche e Vesuvio

G. Pratella (XX) - Marina con barche e Vesuvio

Splendid painting on cardboard (being under glass it is not clear whether it is oil, gouache, tempera, or another medium) depicting a captivating view of the Gulf of Naples with paranze (traditional sailboats) in the foreground and the blurred profile of Vesuvius in the background. The work stands out for a refined chromatic-luminescent rendering, with vibrant, impasto touches that masterfully describe the sun’s reflections on the water. The original period frame (contemporary) in dark wood with a gilded inner bead enriches the piece due to its peculiarity and state of conservation. Author: signed bottom right G. Pratella, painter of the early 20th century active in the Neapolitan school of vedutismo and marine scenes. He has nothing to do with the famous Attilio Pratella and his sons. - Dimensions: Painting: 35 x 49 cm Frame: 46.5 x 60.5 cm (provided together with the work) Weight of the painting with frame: 1975 g - Frame: the work is adorned by its intact original period frame (coeval) in dark wood with a gilded inner bead. - Back history: the back is intact and preserves the rare original label (with the royal Sabaudic eagle emblem and the four-digit telephone numbers 35-77 and 20-28) of the prestigious company "Pietro Presbitero & figli" of Turin (Via Roma 18 / Via Mazzini 9), a historic firm in the field, which places the production of the rare frame among the early 20th century and the 1920s/30s. - Commercial link: the Presbitero company, in addition to producing exquisite artistic frames, sold art prints and paintings by contemporary painters. This precisely explains, it seems, how a work related to the Neapolitan marine school (signed G. Pratella) could have passed through the market and the high-bourgeois collectors of Turin at the time. - Condition: excellent overall. The presence of glass gives the object the charm typical of antique living-room paintings, inseparably tying the work to its surroundings and to its valuable original gilded frame. - The photos, an integral part of the proposal, complete the description and presentation of the work, highlighting the condition of the work and of the rare contemporaneous frame. - The frame visible in the photo is included as a courtesy and is not an integral part of the artwork. Any damage to the frame will not be a valid reason for claims or order cancellations. - Shipping performed with professional reinforced packaging for a piece of this kind, fast and insured shipping."
