Gabriel Le Veneur

Manuscript on parchment, Foundation Statutes of the Brotherhood of Charity of Saint-Clair-d’Arcey, near Bernay (Eure). Act of Gabriel Le Veneur, bishop of Évreux, given at the Château de Condé on 11 November 1565. Followed by the confirmation of Claude de Sainctes (1576) and the visa of François de Péricard, dated 27 May 1620 during a pastoral visit. Nominative list of the founders: the parish priest Robert Dagommer, the lord of the place, the lord and the parish priest of Carentonne, about sixty parishioners. Then 19 articles in French: thirteen brothers under a bailiff and a provost, bearing the hood, daily masses, procession and burial of the brothers, free burial of the poor, bread distributed, aid to the sick and to women in childbirth, contributions, fines, annual elections, banquets limited to two per year. Indulgence of forty days. Notebook of 2 double leaves of vellum, 7 pages written. Ornate initial, careful handwriting in brown ink. Signatures of the episcopal secretaries.
