Collection of 4 historical tin medals – 18th-century medal types – 3 popes and King Edward IV – Lauffer & Jean Dassier Special collection of four historical tin medals, based on well-known medal types from the first half of the 18th century. The collection consists of three papal medals from the famous historical series by Caspar Gottlieb Lauffer and a medal of King Edward IV of England, after the design of the renowned medalist Jean Dassier. 1. Pope Saint Sixtus I (117–128) - Series: Caspar Gottlieb Lauffer, Nuremberg, circa 1712 - Material: Tin - Weight: 13.0 g - Obverse: portrait of the pope with Latin inscription - Reverse: extensive Latin biographical inscription 2. The portraits, Latin inscriptions, edge ornamentation, and execution of the reliefs align with known historical medal types. All four pieces have a dark, time-worn patina and visible age and wear. The exact manufacturing date of the offered pieces has not been independently established. Condition: Well legible and detailed reliefs, dark patina and normal surface and wear. The medals are thin in construction; the Edward IV medal is slightly thicker and heavier than the three papal pieces. An interesting collection for enthusiasts of historical medal art, papal history, English royal houses, and European numismatics. All four medals are offered together as one lot. The photographs are an integral part of the description.
