Germany - Pennant - Kaiserliche Marine - Marina Imperiale Tedesca

Imperial German Navy pennant (Kaiserliche Marine) dating from the period 1871–1919. Original antique item from the 1920s or 1930s. On the reverse is reproduced the painting “Der Letzte Mann” (The Last Man). The painting became one of the most famous propaganda images of World War I. It refers to the naval Battle of the Falkland Islands on 8 December 1914. According to legend the soldier depicted was part of the crew of the cruiser Nürnberg, who, although his ship was already sinking, did not want to surrender to British troops, but preferred to die with the Imperial Navy flag in his hand. The banner is fabric, of excellent workmanship and well finished. There are two rings. It is in good condition with no tears or holes. Banner dimensions: 26 x 18 cm. Shipped by courier with tracking.
