Silver coin of 1 Vereinstaler minted in Berlin during the reign of William I of Prussia, three years after the formation of the North German Confederation and one year before the proclamation of the German Empire. The obverse features the monarch’s bare bust facing right, with a realistic portrait and notable precision in the details of the hair, sideburns and facial features. Beneath the bust is the letter A, corresponding to the Berlin mint. The reverse shows the imposing crowned Prussian eagle, with wings outstretched, bearing scepter and orb, and with the dynastic shield on its breast, surrounded by the Order of the Black Eagle. The perimeter legend refers to the monetary standard of thirty thalers per pound of fine silver. The piece presents very defined reliefs, especially in the eagle’s plumage, the crown and the legends, with clean fields, a bright silvery tone and slight superficial signs visible. A representative piece of 19th‑century Prussian numismatics, corresponding to a decisive stage in the German unification process.
