Note: Special monochrome edition of only 25 numbered copies, sourced from the Archive of Stamperia Caprini in Rome. “The Horses of Achilles” is a splendid 1971 lithograph dedicated to one of Giorgio de Chirico’s most evocative subjects. The majestic horses evoke Xanto and Balios, the legendary immortal chargers of the Greek hero. Their figures, the classical ruins and the sea in the background compose a scene of extraordinary intensity, in which classical mythology creates an uncanny, mysterious, and timeless atmosphere, typical of Metaphysical art. The refined lithographic technique renders the softness of the drawing and the richness of chiaroscuro, giving life to an image of particular elegance and great charm. Giorgio de Chirico’s graphic activity represents a fundamental chapter of his oeuvre. The works of the Seventies, like this one, offer collectors direct access to the artist’s unmistakable metaphysical language, with images of great suggestion and excellent execution quality. Of particular prestige and collecting interest is the special edition of only 25 copies, part of the Archive of Stamperia Caprini in Rome. The proposed work, numbered 3/25 and hand-signed by the artist, bears the two important dry seals of Giorgio de Chirico and Alberto Caprini Stampatore in Roma. The precious gilded frame, richly worked, constitutes an additional element of value and enhances the elegance of the composition. Giorgio de Chirico (Volos, 1888 – Rome, 1978) is the great master of Metaphysical art and one of the absolute protagonists of Twentieth-Century art. His silent squares, statues, horses, and mythologically inspired seascapes have influenced generations of artists, making his language universally recognizable. Owning a prestigious work by Giorgio de Chirico like this is a true must for every collector passionate about Twentieth-Century art history. The buyer will receive the work in careful and sturdy packaging. Very fast shipping. The color rendering and the perception of details in the photos presented here may vary slightly depending on the user’s screen and due to the presence of the protective glass.
