GOUNOD (Charles) (1818–1893). French composer. Winner of the First Grand Prix de Rome in 1839. Autograph letter signed “Ch. Gounod” to his friend, the painter Jules Richomme. Sunday, February 13, 1870. 1 page, in-12 format. Stamped envelope enclosed. A friendly letter in which Charles Gounod invites Jules Richomme to lunch to discuss a matter he considers important and urgent. “ My dear Jules, You absolutely must come to lunch at my house on Tuesday. I need to speak with you about something that I hope will be both useful and pleasant for you. Please don’t miss it: this matter requires an urgent response.” Gounod concludes his letter by extending his regards to the Richomme family.
