Greco Milano Illuminazione SpA - Hanging lamp (2) - Height 40 cm

I am selling a pair of industrial ceiling-mounted lamps "Deep Bowl" in heavy metal and black vitreous enamel and porcelain, produced in the 1960s, attributed to Greco Fabbrica Apparecchi Illuminazione S.p.A - Milan LOT DESCRIPTION Splendid and elegant pair of authentic mid-century industrial pendant lamps, salvaged from a historic Italian manufacturing facility. Sold in exceptional original vintage condition — a matched set that is rare and hard to find, ideal for high-profile design projects requiring visual symmetry (such as kitchen islands, bars, counters, or dining tables). Key features and details for collectors and experts: • Rare "Deep Bowl" Geometry: Unlike the classic wide and flat industrial shades, these lamps feature a deep funnel silhouette with slender, monumental proportions (Height 40 cm | Diameter 44 cm). This specific shape was originally designed to channel and direct the light flux from high ceilings. • Premium Materials in Vitreous Enamel: Made of heavy-duty metal, with a superb glossy two-tone vitreous enamel (fired porcelain) finish: glossy black on the exterior with a high reflectivity and milky white reflective interior. This period technique guarantees a lifelong brilliance and unparalleled light diffusion, impossible to replicate with modern coatings. The outer perimeter edge shows the classic dark rim of the sheet metal, a typical construction detail of period workmanship. • The Upper Pulley Block (Industrial Archaeology): The heavy alloy top housing is equipped with an open-eye loop and a white ceramic insulating pulley from the era. This fascinating system originally served to slide and electrically insulate the lamp along overhead lines with wire ropes (cables suspended inside factories). • Conservative Electrical Restoration (Goliath E40 Socket): Unlike many lots modernized with cheap plastic components, here the historical soul has been fully preserved. Inside lies the massive and striking original white porcelain socket with the giant industrial E40 (Goliath) thread. • Ready to Use: To make the lamps immediately usable in a domestic setting, a practical adapter has been installed to reduce the socket to the classic E27 thread. This allows you to install any modern LED bulb without altering the wonderful original mechanical structure. • Condition: The lamps are presented in original vintage condition, unrestored but structurally perfect. They show a beautiful natural patina with the upper shell and the bolt hardware that testify to their history, and very light and normal surface marks on the enamel edges that do not compromise aesthetics but enhance their charm and industrial character. Greco Fabbrica Apparecchi Illuminazione S.p.A. of Milan was a historic company that played a leading role in the Italian industrial scene in the 1950s and 1960s, culminating in success with the prestigious Compasso d'Oro prize in 1959. The brand is renowned in the world of Mid-Century Modern for having fused technical and monumental lighting with the early avant-garde currents of Milanese modernism. This exceptional union was made possible through collaborations with the greatest masters of architecture and design of the era, among whom stand out names such as Gio Ponti, Ignazio Gardella, and the famous lighting designer Oscar Torlasco. LOT DESCRIPTION A stunning and elegant pair of authentic industrial pendant lamps (Mid-Century), salvaged from a historic Italian manufacturing facility. Sold in exceptional, original vintage condition — a rare matching set that is hard to find, making it ideal for high-profile design projects requiring visual symmetry (such as kitchen islands, bars, counters, or dining tables). Key features and details for collectors and experts: • Rare "Deep Bowl" Geometry: Unlike standard wide and flattened industrial shades, these lamps feature a deep funnel silhouette with slender, monumental proportions (Height 40 cm | Diameter 44 cm). This specific shape was originally engineered to channel and focus the luminous flux from high factory ceilings. • Premium Materials in Vitreous Enamel: Crafted from heavy-duty metal with a superb two-tone vitreous enamel (fire-enameled) finish: highly reflective glossy black on the exterior and a reflective milk-white on the interior. This period-correct technique ensures a lifelong gloss and an unparalleled light dispersion that modern liquid paints simply cannot replicate. The outer rim features the classic dark folded sheet metal edge, a construction detail typical of vintage manufacturing. • The Industrial Archaeology Top Pulley: The heavy cast-metal top housing is equipped with an open eyelet hook and a vintage white ceramic insulating pulley. This fascinating system was originally used to slide and electrically insulate the lamp along overhead wire rope spans suspended inside industrial plants. • Conservative Electrical Restoration (Goliath E40 Socket): Unlike many lots modernized with cheap commercial plastic components, the historical soul of these lamps has been fully preserved. Inside, the extraordinary and heavy original solid white porcelain industrial E40 (Goliath) socket remains intact. The porcelain features the stamped Italian manufacturer's mark with a logo inside a triangle and the inscription "MOD. DEP." (Registered Design). • Ready to Use: To make the lamps immediately functional for residential environments, a practical adapter has been installed to reduce the socket to a standard E27 thread. This allows you to use any modern LED bulb without altering the magnificent original mechanical structure. • Condition: The lamps are in original vintage condition, unrestored but structurally flawless. They showcase a beautiful natural patina on the top cast housing and hardware that bear witness to their history, along with very minor, normal superficial edge chips to the enamel that do not detract from their look but instead enhance their authentic industrial charm and character.
