Hand mirror - Metal - Engraved bird ornament 1891

Antique hand-held mirror from the late 19th century, bearing on the reverse a handwritten inscription engraved and dated June 1891. This dressing mirror features a richly worked gilded metal mount, with floral ornaments, foliage and relief motifs in historicist style. Its pediment is particularly noteworthy: it is adorned with a relief bird, placed under a suspension ring. The oval mirror presents a beveled perimeter. The handle, finely decorated, completes this set characteristic of antique dressing accessories. On the reverse is engraved a handwritten inscription: « Souvenir d'Arthur Détoux – juin 1891 » Reading of the surname remains to be confirmed due to the old handwriting and the wear of the metal. The date June 1891 is clearly identifiable. The mount shows an antique patina, variations and wear to the gilding as well as traces of oxidation. The glass body bears pinpricks, stains and old alterations visible in the photographs. These marks are present in the glass and cannot be removed by simple cleaning. No chipping or cracking observed on the mirror surface. The metal reverse shows marked oxidation and traces of old wear, preserved as is. No recent restoration known. The history of any prior interventions is not documented.
