Hans Müller / Stefan Hlawa - Hans Müller – Der Spiegel...

Hans Müller – The Spiegel of Agrippina Rare, bibliophile original edition of 1919, Folio, limited to only 350 numbered copies. Exemplar No. 314/350 – signed by Hans Müller and Stefan Hlawa. Vienna–Leipzig, Avalun-Verlag, 1919. Second Avalun print. An exceptional bibliophile artist’s edition from the early Austrian book art of the 20th century, published in a unique, strictly limited total edition of only 350 copies. The present copy bears the handwritten number 314/350 and contains twelve original etchings by the Austrian graphic artist and set designer Stefan Hlawa (1896–1977). The etchings were created specifically for this edition and were pulled under the personal supervision of the artist on the artist’s press of the Wiener Kupferdruckerei Paulussen & Co. Special features of this rare edition: * Only 350 numbered copies produced worldwide. * Copy No. 314/350. * Handwritten signatures of both the author Hans Müller and the artist Stefan Hlawa. * Twelve large-format original etchings, not ordinary printed book illustrations. * Printed on high-quality Massilianiko rag paper. * Original publisher’s binding with purple title embossing. * Handcrafted binding by the Vienna bookbinder Josef Bordereaux. * Published in 1919 as the Second Avalun print. The twelve original etchings are characterized by their expressive imagery, dramatic light and shadow contrasts, and the distinctive graphic design of the period. Stefan Hlawa worked as a graphic artist, painter, and stage designer and collaborated, among others, with prominent Austrian theaters and opera houses. Bibliographic details: Vienna–Leipzig, Avalun-Verlag, 1919. 4 unnumbered pages, 44 text pages, and twelve original etchings outside the text. Original binding. Condition: Age-related signs of wear and storage on the binding and book block. Paper slightly darkened or stained in places. The original etchings remain high-contrast. An old newspaper clipping about Stefan Hlawa is included. A rare, fully illustrated and double-signed bibliophile edition from a small historical total edition of only 350 copies. The numerous photographs document the equipment and the condition and are part of the description. Private sale from my private collection. The sale is made without any warranty for material defects. Returns or exchanges are excluded. The description is given to the best of my knowledge and belief. The photographs are part of the condition description. The exclusion of liability does not apply to damages arising from injury to life, body, or health, as well as in cases of intentional or grossly negligent breach of duty.
