Historical handwritten guestbook / reminiscence book 1888–1908 – Palatinate, Eisenberg – Engelhorn, Gienanth, Schilling Description For sale is an exceptional historical handwritten guestbook or reminiscence book from the late 19th and early 20th century. The authentic original contains numerous handwritten entries from a period roughly 1888 to 1908. The entries come from various people and contain personal dedications, poems, memories, travel reports, place and date indications as well as signatures. The entries are predominantly written in historical German script or Kurrent. Some entries are also in Italian. Particularly striking is the relation to the Palatinate and Eisenberg. At the same time the book documents various travels and stays outside the region. Particularly interesting entries Among other things the book contains dated entries from: Eisenberg / Palatinate Albisheim – 18 September 1900 Badenweiler – 3 March 1902 Venice – 15 June 1905 22 August 1908 – one of the last preserved entries The entry from Venice on 15 June 1905 is especially noteworthy and contains a longer Italian text. Historically interesting names Among the readable or very likely identified names are, among others: Marie Engelhorn Alexander Schilling von Canstatt – very likely Ilma von Gienanth further names from the circle of the Engelhorn, Gienanth and Schilling families numerous other people whose identity could not yet be clearly determined The Engelhorn, Gienanth and Schilling families were historically linked. The existing entries therefore offer interesting starting points for further genealogical and regional historical research. Identification of individual persons is partly based on legible signatures and partly on historical genealogical contexts. Not every person appearing in the book has been able to be identified beyond doubt so far. Character of the book This is not a printed book with printed content, but a personal reminiscence and guestbook kept over many years with authentic contemporary handwritings. The different hands, inks, poems and personal texts make the book an interesting historical document. Condition Age-appropriate condition. The paper has darkened with age and shows corresponding signs of use. The original handwritten entries are predominantly well preserved and visible. After the last preserved entry from 1908, numerous blank pages follow. In the area after the preserved entries there are also several missing or torn-out pages.
