Portable HMV gramophone "La Voix de son Maître" with its original HMV motor No. 59 - Late 1920s to early 1930s Description: Old portable HMV gramophone (His Master’s Voice/La voix de son Maître) equipped with its original HMV No. 59 motor manufactured by The Gramophone Co. Ltd, Hayes, Middlesex). Good overall condition for its age. Original case in good condition with normal signs of use. Turntable present with its cover. Chrome tonearm in good condition. Internal horn present. Original HMV No. 59 motor Two HMV playback heads supplied. Brake functional. Overall visually complete. Tests performed: The turntable turns freely by hand. The drive shaft turns when the crank is operated. The HMV No. 59 motor is present and appears visually complete. During tests without the turntable, the drive shaft turns when the crank is operated but stops as soon as the crank stops. When the turntable is mounted on its shaft, it does not start turning autonomously and sometimes turns very hard or not at all. A regular clacking sound is audible when the crank is operated. This sound is no longer perceptible when the turntable is removed. Despite several complete turns of the crank, no autonomous operation was observed. The photographs are an integral part of the description and allow assessing the overall condition of the item.
