Unique Hand Made Back Printer's Model HONG KONG (SAR). Chartered Bank. 100 Dollars, 1979-85. P-79pm. KNB54. Back Printer's Model. PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ. A unique, unadopted, uniface reverse printer's model for the large size Qilin $100 of 1979 to 1982. On careful inspection, there are differences between this design and the final, issued one. These are listed below: 1. The colours of some components are different. e.g. the '100' at lower left and upper right, the geometric symbol at lower right and also the general underprint 2. The layout of the right panel is different 3. The 'Yi Bai Yuan' on the printer's model is vertical compared to horizontal on the issued version. Printer's models were made by printer designers using a collage of printed and hand painted components. Their purpose was to show clients, often banknote issuing authorities, a proposed design of their banknotes and offer a chance for feedback. The designers will incorporate these changes until the Bank approves the final design, whereupon printing plates will be engraved and printing proofs, usually in black and white or single colour, made for further inspection or comment. As the design on this piece is somewhat similar to the final design, the cataloguer speculates that it is either the third or second last model made. Provenance: From the Grass Unweeded Collection. 獨一無二之手繪設計稿 1985年香港渣打銀行壹佰圓。背面印刷廠圖稿。 1979至1982年大尺寸"麒麟"壹佰圓之獨一無二、未採納單面背面印刷廠設計圖稿。經仔細比對，本設計與最終發行版本存在若干差異，列述如下：1. 部分構件顏色不同，例如左下及右上之"100"、右下幾何圖案以及整體底紋；2. 右側框面佈局不同；3. 原稿上的"壹百圓"字樣為直排，而正式發行版則為橫排。印刷廠原稿是由設計師結合印刷與手繪構件拼貼製作而成，旨在向客戶（通常為發鈔當局）展示擬定鈔票設計並徵詢反饋。設計師會根據意見修改，直至銀行批准最終定稿，隨後雕刻印版並印製通常為黑白或單色的試印樣張供進一步審閱。鑑於此件圖案與最終定稿頗為接近，編者推測其為倒數第二或第三版設計稿。孤品，極具教學及歷史價值。PMG備註"鈔票未受卡紙瑕疵影響"。
