Horace Raisson - Code civil

Fascinating edition of this work devoted to the learning of social customs and rules of conduct deemed indispensable for a person wishing to move with ease in the “good company” of early 19th century French society - Despite its deliberately legalist-sounding title, this book is obviously not a collection of the Napoleonic Civil Code, but a genuine code of social behavior, designed to organize gestures, words, attitudes, and social obligations in the manner of a set of laws intended to govern life in society - Raisson thus transforms politeness into a true practical science, with its principles, its rules, its exceptions, and its examples, starting from the idea that social success depends as much on knowledge of etiquette as on education or fortune - Horace Raisson - Civil Code, complete manual of politeness, of tone, of the manners of good company, containing the laws, rules, applications and examples of the art of presenting oneself and conducting oneself in the world - 1828 - Ladvocat - 356 pages. Good condition of the binding, work in its original half-sheepskin in Havana brown, marbled boards, signs of wear, bindings and corners somewhat worn, beautiful marbled edges, spine with raised bands, gilded lettering - Good interior condition, some stains, third edition revised and enlarged, complete with the frontispiece engraving titled “The Concert,” endpapers in good condition, a pleasant copy - Delivery service guaranteed within a few days –
