HUMAN STUPIDITY, No. 1 PILOTELL. Human Stupidity. No. 1. “Who goes there?” — “Trochu!” — “Go on through! You’re not a threat.” — “By the way, what’s your plan?” Paris, on sale at Grognet; distributed by Madre, [1870–1871]. Satirical lithograph partially colored by Georges Pilotell, depicting a Prussian soldier facing General Trochu, governor of Paris, holding a rosary. A satirical allusion to the famous “Trochu Plan” during the Siege of Paris. Signed “Pilotell” on the plate. Paper has browned; some foxing and small marginal tears.
