The silver mounting is exceptionally beautifully executed, with detailed relief decorations, finely engraved ornaments, and richly adorned nabes (nimben). Original Russian silver assay marks The icon bears multiple historical marks that provide important information about origin and dating: Silversmith: Semyon Grigorievich Galkin (Семён Григорьевич Галкин) Master mark: С.Г. Assay master: Anatoli Apollonovich Artsibashev (А.А.) Assay year: 1896 Origin: Moscow, Imperial Russia Silver assay: 84 zolotnik – corresponding to 875/1000 silver The combination of the master mark of Galkin and the dated assay mark of master Artsibashev connects the silver oklad with Moscow silversmithing of 1896.
