Timo Sarpaneva for Iittala - 'Finlandia' Series Textured Art Glass Centerpiece Bowl (Model 3346) - 1960s/1970s An extraordinary piece of modernist Scandinavian art glass. This low, wide flared crystal centerpiece bowl is from the iconic Finlandia series, designed by the master of Finnish design, Timo Sarpaneva, for Iittala in the mid-1960s.The bowl features a smooth, beautifully polished wide clear glass outer rim that seamlessly transitions into a heavily textured, organic ice-structure inner center. This rugged interior finish mimics the frozen landscape of natural Arctic pack ice. Because of the organic, "melting glacier" styling, this piece is frequently misattributed online to Sarpaneva's contemporary at Iittala, Tapio Wirkkala (famous for the Ultima Thule series). Wirkkala achieved massive commercial success with mass-produced textured everyday tableware, making his name highly searched. However, this specific architectural centerpiece form belongs definitively to Timo Sarpaneva's premium art glass portfolio, verified precisely by the factory catalog shape and hand-etched signature. Markings: Engraved Authentication: Hand-signed/engraved on the bottom rim: "TIMO SARPANEVA 3376" The side features the original, early factory branding: a direct-printed "MADE IN FINLAND" enamel stamp. Condition: Excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The crystal glass remains brilliantly clear. Only minor, negligible shelf-wear scratches are present on the underside of the base rim, consistent with age and careful display. Please review the high-resolution photos to verify the signature and overall condition. Note on Base Pads: There are 4 protective pads attached to the underside base rim. These are placed solely to protect the furniture surface and the object itself from scratches. They can be easily removed by the next owner if desired. NOTE: For collectors who prefer a flawless appearance, any imperfections can be assessed and, if desired, professionally restored by a specialist experienced in working with this type of material. Shipping: The item will be carefully packed and shipped with tracking. Insurance is included in the shipping fee. Any customs duties, taxes or import fees are the buyer's responsibility. Disclaimer: All items offered are privately owned. While we are not professional appraisers, restorers, or conservators, we make every effort to describe each item honestly, accurately, and as comprehensively as possible.
