Set of 2 vintage Tütenlampen / bedside lamps - in the style of Werner Lorenz – opaline glass, brass & black-veined marble – Germany – circa 1950/60 A particularly stylish set of two matching vintage table lamps / bedside lamps, probably manufactured in Germany around the 1950s–1960s. The lamps are a fine example of post-war Mid-Century Modern design, combining opaline glass, brass and natural stone in a characteristic and elegant way. Ribbed opaline glass Each lamp features a tall, tapered shade made of milk-white opaline glass, with a pronounced vertical ribbed texture. The ribbed glass gives the lamps their recognizable 1950s look and disperses light in an appealing, warm and diffuse manner when switched on. The glass shade rests in a rounded, bell-shaped brass holder. The warm gold-coloured brass provides a beautiful contrast with both the white opaline glass and the dark marble base. Black marble with natural veining A notable detail are the heavy rectangular bases in black marble with a handsome natural veining and cloud-like structure. In the dark stone, lighter, partly gold-grey veins and natural shading are visible. The linear pattern varies per base and emphasizes the marble's natural character. When paired with the brass, this gives the lamps a luxurious yet understated look. Each marble base houses a characteristic white push-button switch. The undersides are finished with green felt. Possible relation to Werner Lorenz In terms of design, materials and construction, these lamps show interesting similarities to German bed- and table lamps from the 1950s, including models attributed to Werner Lorenz. Notably, the combination of formed opaline glass, brass, a heavy stone/marble base, and compact form aligns with German lighting from this period. No visible Werner Lorenz manufacturer mark or label was found on these pieces. A definitive attribution to Werner Lorenz cannot be made; the name is mentioned solely due to stylistic and structural affinity. On the brass and marble bases there are localized signs of use and patina. The natural veins, shading and structure of the marble should not be confused with damage. The authentic appearance has been consciously preserved. Please examine the photos carefully; they form an important part of the condition description. A particularly decorative matching pair, very suitable as bedside lamps on either side of a bed, but also lovely on a sideboard, nightstands or two coffee tables. Especially when the lamps are lit, the vertical structure of the opaline glass comes beautifully to the fore, creating a warm, atmospheric light. The set is ready for use and is originally wired.
