Italian Ancient States - Tuscany - First issue | 8 originals – Sassone 4

Ancient Italian States – Grand Duchy of Tuscany – 1st issue 1851 Interesting lot consisting of 8 original stamps from the I emission of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, featuring the Marzocco, coming from a private collection. The set includes different values and shades of the first issue, in addition to two specimens signed and backside-graded by the philatelic expert Manuela Sorani, characterized by interesting mute cancellations. Composition of the lot and Sassone references: • 2 × 1 crazie – no. 4, in different carmine shades – reference catalogue value €275 each = €550 • 2 × 2 crazie – no. 5, in different shades of light blue – reference catalogue value €300 each = €600 • 1 × 4 crazie – no. 6 – reference catalogue value €325 • 1 × 9 crazie – no. 8, purplish-brown – reference catalogue value €500 • 1 × 2 crazie – no. 5b, vivid blue on blue, signed and classified Sorani, with mute cancel in a diamond shape – reference catalogue value €600 • 1 × 4 crazie – no. 6c, light blue on gray, signed and classified Sorani, with mute cancel featuring five bars – reference catalogue value €325 Total reference catalogue value: approximately €2,900. The above total represents the sum of the nominal catalogue quotations for the individual references and does not constitute a commercial valuation of the lot, nor does it take into account, positively or negatively, the specific condition or potential interest of the cancellations. Condition and expert opinion For maximum transparency, it is noted that the six specimens of the upper row were examined by the philatelic expert Manuela Sorani and recognized as originals of the I emission, with an explicit note on the label: “ORIGINALS 6 – DEFECTIVE – I EMISSION”. The six specimens are therefore offered and described as original but defective. The specific nature of the individual defects is not listed on the expert label and is not arbitrarily assigned in this description. The two specimens of the lower row are separately indicated as original and signed; on the back the signature and Sorani’s classification are clearly visible, namely Sassone 5b and Sassone 6c, respectively. Particularly notable philatelic interest resides in; signed SORANI: the 2 crazie Sassone 5b with a mute diamond-shaped cancel and the 4 crazie Sassone 6c with a mute five-bar cancel. The cancellations are described exclusively according to the visible type; no post office, Sassone score, or degree of rarity not directly documented is attributed. The different shades present in the two 1 crazie and in the two higher-valued 2 crazie are clearly visible, but, not being accompanied by an individual chromatic classification from the expert, no further Sassone suffixes are arbitrarily assigned. High-resolution photographs of the fronts and backs of all items are an integral, substantial, and essential part of the description. Therefore, collectors are urged to examine them carefully to personally evaluate margins, paper, cancellations, expert signatures, and the condition of each stamp. All 8 stamps are originals. Provenance: private collection. The lot will be delivered exactly as depicted in the photographs. Catalogue quotations are provided solely as philatelic references and do not constitute a guarantee of the sale price.
