Italy - Piedmont / Liguria; Gerardus Mercator (Gerardo Mercatore

Rare and fascinating geographic map that depicts in detail Piedmont, the fragmented Marchesato of Monferrato, and the inland of the Republic of Genoa. • In the upper left is inscribed an elegant Mannerist cartouche enriched with geometric motifs that encloses the title of the work in Latin characters. • Orography and Hydrography: The Alpine and Apennine reliefs are represented according to the classic perspective method of the "molehill" mound, while the dense hydrographic network of the Po basin and its tributaries is delineated with philological precision, as are the numerous fortified settlements of the era. The exemplar is presented in good overall condition, printed on sturdy period laid paper with light and natural signs of aging that attest to its authenticity. Margins well preserved and the sharpness of the engraving.
