Jade - Jadeite Pendant – Large Carved Disc with Openwork...

A large, finely hand-carved jadeite jade disc pendant, certified by NGTC as natural Type A jadeite, meaning it is untreated: no bleaching, no polymer impregnation and no dyeing. The round form is carved in rich relief with flowers and greenery. Five-petalled blossoms open around the edge of the disc, among clusters of plump, rounded fruit-like forms, sweeping leaves and curling tendrils. At the upper right, a feathered form with flowing, finely incised lines sweeps along the rim. The surface is layered and full of movement. At the heart of the disc is a circular medallion carved in pierced openwork, framing a small figure. Light passes through the openings and gives the centre a delicate, lace-like quality. Held up to the light, the whole disc glows, showing the stone's pleasing translucency. The jadeite is a soft, fresh light green, as stated on the certificate, with gentle natural variations in tone that add depth to the carving. With its generous size and substantial weight, this is a true statement pendant and a fine piece for a collector of Chinese hardstone carving. The pendant is supplied on a knotted cord with an accent bead. The bead is not tested.
