JAPAN. 5 Yen, Year 30 (1897). Osaka Mint. Mutsuhito (Meiji). NGC MS-65 Deep Prooflike. Fr-52; KM-Y-32; Fr-52; JNDA-01-8; JC-09-8. Small size variety. An absolutely stunning 5 Yen with the initial appearance of a Proof strike, close inspection revealing slightly rounded rims and devices and visible die polish lines that are more befitting of a business strike, but clearly produced from very freshly polished dies. A testament to the superb standards of production at the Osaka Mint, and fully Gem to boot, with only the most minute wispy marks traceable across jewel-like surfaces. One of a mere five pieces certified as Deep Prooflike across the entire 5 Yen series, and VERY RARE with such an extreme degree of contrast and reflectivity. Estimate: $6,000 - $8,000.
