Japanese bronze koro in a pumpkin shape with birds –...

An exceptional and decorative Japanese bronze incense burner from the Meiji period, executed in the form of a stylized pumpkin. The object is richly adorned with finely worked birds and vine tracery in high relief. The removable lid is crowned by a rooster and hen, beautifully modeled with refined details. The deep dark brown patina contrasts elegantly with the sculptural bronze ornamentation and emphasizes the very refined finish. The underside bears a maker's mark. Through its organic design and poetic decoration this is a particularly atmospheric object that is both sculpturally and functionally striking. Japan, Meiji period (1868–1912). Dimensions: 46 × 30 cm Weight: approximately 8 kg Our photos are part of the description. Our items can be viewed in Mora Antiques showroom in Bilzen-Hoeselt in Belgium.
