Jean Carzou (born Garnik Zouloumian in 1907 in Aleppo and died in 2000) was a French painter, engraver and designer of Armenian origin. Arriving in Paris in 1924, he studied architecture before turning to painting and moving in Montparnasse. His distinctive style blends a rigorous geometric perspective with a dreamlike, desolate landscape and tragic visions of his era. He also enjoyed great success as a designer of scenery and costumes for theatre and opera. He was elected a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1977.
