Jimi Hendrix - Smash Hits (UK) – 1968 VERY RARE 1st Mono...

Jimi Hendrix - Smash Hits (UK) – 1968 VERY RARE 1st Mono...

A very rare original 1968 UK first mono pressing of Smash Hits by The Jimi Hendrix Experience, issued by Track Records (612004) during Hendrix's extraordinary first period in Britain. This copy is particularly interesting because it carries an unusual mixed catalogue-number and textual label variation that makes it more specialised than a standard first pressing. The sleeve carries the original mono catalogue number, while the labels show the alternate configuration associated with the other issue. The record also exhibits two characteristic printing discrepancies: on Side Two, track 2 appears as "Stars That Play With Laughing Sam's Dice" on the sleeve (abbreviated from the full title), while the label for track 5 gives "The Burning Of The Midnight Lamp" — these are best understood as label and sleeve misprints rather than a true mispress, as the actual musical content remains entirely correct. Smash Hits itself is an essential document of the original Jimi Hendrix Experience period, bringing together major singles, B-sides and album material from Hendrix's explosive first years in Britain. The track listing includes "Purple Haze," "Fire," "The Wind Cries Mary," "Can You See Me," "51st Anniversary," "Hey Joe," "Stone Free," "The Stars That Play With Laughing Sam's Dice," "Manic Depression," "Highway Chile," "Burning Of The Midnight Lamp" and "Foxy Lady." The presence of tracks such as "51st Anniversary," "Stone Free," "Highway Chile" and "The Stars That Play With Laughing Sam's Dice" gives the original UK edition particular interest, as several of these had first appeared as single B-sides rather than standard album tracks. ⸻ Sleeve (VG+): The original laminated UK sleeve is in very good plus condition. There are normal signs of age, storage and handling throughout, but the sleeve remains structurally solid and the artwork presents very attractively overall → VG+ Inner Sleeve: Original inner sleeve included. Labels: Original black and silver Track labels remain well preserved. Vinyl (VG+): The vinyl retains a good original gloss with some light superficial marks and normal signs of previous play, but nothing particularly deep or severe. Overall the record presents very well and remains a strong example of this rare first mono pressing → VG+ ⸻ Details * UK 1st mono pressing * Track Records * Catalogue number 612004 * Original mono configuration * Black / silver Track labels * Original UK laminated sleeve * Rare mixed catalogue-number variation * B2 abbreviated sleeve title * B5 "The Burning Of The Midnight Lamp" label variation * Original 12-track UK configuration * Original inner sleeve included
