Joe DiMaggio attributed diamond appointed 14k gold Jules Jurgesen wristwatch with "56 game hitting streak" engraving. Vintage men's wristwatch by Jules Jurgesen (likely manufactured c.1960s to early 70s) has small diamond appointments to each hour on the face and a "14KT" impressed mark. Engraved on the back of the housing, "Joe DiMaggio, 56 game hitting streak in 1941" below a "JJ" hallmark and simulated Yankees "NY" logo. An included notarized letter of provenance relays that it was gifted by Joe himself to a patron at his famed Fisherman's Wharf "Grotto" restaurant. The former owner notes that he and his father visited the establishment in 1976 when he was 12 years old. While washing his hands the young boy noticed that the man using the sink beside him had left his watch behind. "I picked up the watch and chased after him" and after returning it "the gentleman followed me back to my table ...and introduced himself to my dad with the name of Joe DiMaggio." Joe insisted on buying lunch for the pair in return for the good deed and a short while later returned and gifted the young man with one of his very own watches. The piece displays beautifully and includes the ornate original outer box, hinged lid watch box, guarantee booklet, and 14k gold plastic hang tag. In very fine overall condition with a hint of light wear and the leather bands appears to have been only minimally used: EX/MT
