The exterior is treated with a glaze and firing process characteristic of atmospheric firing, such as wood-firing or salt-glazing, resulting in a rich gradient of earthy tones. The surface transitions from a deep, flashed reddish-brown at the shoulder to a speckled, warm orange-tan towards the foot.
