A beautiful and complete 1977 Japanese pressing of John Coltrane's legendary Blue Train, issued by Blue Note / King Records under catalogue number GXF 3010. This Japanese edition formed part of King Records' highly regarded Blue Note Immortal Masterpiece 1800 series. The record retains the complete original Japanese presentation, including the original OBI strip and both inserts—a significant advantage, as these loose components are easily separated from the record over decades of ownership. Blue Train occupies a unique place in Coltrane's catalogue as his only album as leader for Blue Note Records, and it stands as one of the defining hard-bop sessions of the period. Originally recorded on September 15, 1957, the album brings together an extraordinary sextet: John Coltrane on tenor saxophone, Lee Morgan on trumpet, Curtis Fuller on trombone, Kenny Drew on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums. The combination of Coltrane, Morgan and Fuller creates the album's famous three-horn front line, while the rhythm section provides the hard-driving foundation that propels classics such as "Blue Train," "Moment's Notice," "Locomotion," "I'm Old Fashioned" and "Lazy Bird." ⸻ Sleeve (VG+): The original sleeve remains structurally very solid and attractive. The front presents nicely, while the rear shows quite substantial age-related yellow staining and discolouration, which has been factored into the VG+ grading. The original OBI remains very clean and is still present. Inserts: Both original inserts are present and included. Vinyl (EX): A particularly beautiful copy with a deep original gloss and exceptionally clean surfaces throughout nearly the entire record. There is one visible superficial mark, which accounts for the conservative EX grading.
