KAWS (real name Brian Donnelly) is an American artist, painter, sculptor and designer born November 4, 1974 in Jersey City, New Jersey. Biography and origins • Beginnings in graffiti: He started his career in the 1990s making street art in New York, altering advertising posters in bus shelters and phone booths (subvertising). • Education: He earned a BA in illustration from the School of Visual Arts in New York in 1996.
