Kitchen knife - Antique Victorian Carving Set

A magnificent 5-piece antique carving set featuring stag-horn handles and silver-plated mounts. It was crafted in Sheffield, England, likely during the Victorian era. The set is presented in its original velvet-lined case, bearing the mark of the retailer Mappin & Webb. The blades are hand-forged from high-carbon steel, honed to a razor-sharp edge, and built for enduring service. The handles are crafted from polished natural stag horn, displaying a rich, marbled pattern ranging from caramel to ivory tones with a warm, natural luster—the height of luxury for the period. The silver bolsters are intricately chased, adding a touch of refined elegance at the transition from blade to handle. This is a classic Victorian carving set in the "Grand Tour" or "Colonial Export" style, designed for formal dinners and special occasions. Such sets were traditionally given as gifts for weddings, anniversaries, or housewarmings—symbols of prosperity and hospitality in upper-middle-class homes across the British Empire and North America. The set, housed in its original wood-and-leather case featuring a velvet and satin interior and brass fittings, includes: - Large carving knife - Carving fork - Sharpening steel - Slicing/game knife - Small poultry fork It is ideal for collectors of family heirlooms, retro table settings, or anyone who appreciates authentic 19th-century Sheffield craftsmanship.
