Bertil Vallien – Kosta Boda – Starlight – glass light sculpture / votive candle holder – Sweden – design from 2005 This special Starlight See is designed by the internationally renowned Swedish glass artist Bertil Vallien for Kosta Boda. The heavy object is made of clear solid glass and combines sculpture and functionality. In the vertical portion sits Vallien's characteristic stylized face, rendered in warm copper tones and surrounded by concentric relief rings. On the forehead of the face is the word “LOOK” applied, fitting the mysterious and symbolic visual language so characteristic of Bertil Vallien's oeuvre. In the horizontal glass base there is a circular recess for a votive candle or tea light. When the candle is burning, the thick clear glass is illuminated from below and the face takes on a particularly dramatic and almost mystical effect. The object is hand-signed: “Kosta Boda B. Vallien 7090750” Designer: Bertil Vallien Manufacturer: Kosta Boda Model: Starlight See Origin: Sweden Material: clear solid art glass Function: sculpture / candle- or tea light holder Signature: Kosta Boda B. Vallien 7090750 Dimensions: Height: approx. 13.7 cm Width: approx. 8.3 cm Depth: approx. 9.5 cm Weight: 1314 grams The object is in very nice vintage condition, without breaks or cracks. The small air bubbles and natural irregularities in the glass are part of the character of the manufacture and give the solid glass extra depth. A particularly sculptural object in which the functionality of a candle holder is combined with the immediately recognizable artistic visual language of Bertil Vallien. An attractive collectible for lovers of Kosta Boda, Swedish art glass and Scandinavian design. This object will be carefully and safely packed for smart shipping, sent by registered mail and insured with Track & Trace.
